Using Direct Mail to Round Out Your Marketing Campaign

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

It is not hard to forget that a number of offline purchasers exist who can also utilize your services or products, for those of you who conduct the majority of your business over the Internet. It is important to keep in mind that customers that do not use the internet are probably just as interested in your product as those that do. Offline marketing is just as important as online marketing-especially with so many new internet marketing businesses competing for attention. Offline marketing can be done easily through the process of direct mail. Here is a strategy for building a great direct mail campaign.

Most people assume that direct mail has to be long form. They think of direct mail as a process that includes multiple page letters that they mail describing what they do. It doesn’t have to be this way at all! As a matter of fact, sometimes the best direct mail pieces are the shortest ones. Of course, this can vary depending on what kind of business you are running and which audience you have decided to target. It is possible that you will indeed need a lengthy letter. Then again, you may only need to send a postcard with a web address on it. You should never think you know what you need before you begin. When you write direct mail, make sure that the most important information is at the beginning of your direct mail piece. The recipient is then sure to see what you want them to read, even if the letter is really long. You will be amazed at the people who will hire you or buy from you without reading an entire piece of direct mail. You are almost guaranteed a sale, should you grab their attention with the first frew sentences.

You might balk at this, but you have to make sure to use real stamps when you do your targeted direct mail campaign. Even though it seems easier to allow for automatic postage, it will add a bit of a personal touch if you will use real stamps on the mail, allowing for you to get one up on the competition. People notice small details like that-the details that show a person took the time to do something themselves. Individuals will more likely show an interest in direct mail that is personalized. Don’t let direct mail frighten you. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. The more you practice, the more straightforward direct mailing will be. You will also notice the great success you can have from a direct mail campaign as they will often times outpace even your best online marketing efforts. Keep working on your direct mailing. Your sales will increase soon.
